Transport Department completed the replacement of all meters in Hong Kong, the new model can support cell phone APP remote parking fee payment

The Transport Department announced today (17th) that approximately 9,800 roadside parking meters in Hong Kong have been replaced with new parking meters to replace the old Octopus card parking meters. The new parking meters support multiple payment methods for parking fees and are equipped with sensors to detect if parking spaces are occupied. They also support the use of the mobile application "e-Payment for Parking Meters" for on-site and remote payment of parking fees.

According to data from the Transport Department, starting from January 20th of last year, the authorities began installing approximately 12,000 new-generation parking meters in phases. The new parking meters are equipped with sensors to detect whether parking spaces are occupied, providing real-time information to assist drivers in finding vacant parking spaces, thereby reducing the time vehicles spend circling the roads in search of parking spots and alleviating traffic congestion.

The new parking meters also support 'e-Payment for Parking Meters,' allowing drivers to remotely pay for parking fees through their mobile phones. However, to prevent drivers from continuously purchasing additional parking time via mobile devices and occupying parking spaces for an extended period, 'e-Payment for Parking Meters' will impose a time limit on each pairing connection, which will expire when the relevant parking meter's valid parking time ends.

Furthermore, the Transport Department reminds individuals who hold an EasyPark Card that if they wish to apply for a refund, they must complete the procedure at designated refund locations on or before June 30th of this year. Late requests will not be accepted. The refund locations include 12th floor, Lockhart Hill Building, 3 Hennessy Road, Wan Chai, and the ground floor of Hong Kong Telecommunications Tsuen Wan Exchange Building, 303-313 Castle Peak Road, Tsuen Wan.
