IRIS Optronics, a company deeply committed to the development of Cholesteric Liquid Crystal Display (ChLCD) technology, is participating in the Touch Taiwan 2025 exhibition series, showcasing its latest technologies and solutions on site.
IRIS Optronics continues to push the boundaries of cholesteric liquid crystal technology to further enhance display performance. Its ultra-wide color gamut technology significantly improves display quality in both strong ambient light and indoor environments by increasing panel reflectance and contrast. This advancement not only enhances color performance but also effectively reduces energy consumption, achieving an optimal balance between high-quality display and energy efficiency, and delivering an outstanding visual experience.
At this year’s Touch Taiwan exhibition, IRIS Optronics is presenting multiple innovative integrated technologies, including the world’s first “Ming Display 2.0,” which combines cholesteric liquid crystal technology with commercial LCD panels. This solution enables dual functionality, offering both ultra-low-power electronic paper mode and dynamic LCD animation playback. Another innovation, “InfinityDisplay,” is a full-color, zero-power display with built-in solar energy harvesting capability. By integrating cholesteric liquid crystal technology with commercial solar panels, the display not only reflects ambient light to present images, but also captures light energy beyond the visible spectrum and converts it into electrical power for storage and use. This system requires no external power source or professional installation, allowing it to be fully self-sustaining wherever sunlight is available.
In addition, IRIS Optronics has integrated its cholesteric liquid crystal technology with infrared (IR) camera technology. Leveraging the high transmittance characteristics of cholesteric liquid crystals, miniature lenses can be discreetly embedded within the display panel. This allows caregivers to remotely monitor the behavior and condition of those under care without causing psychological pressure or discomfort, thereby providing a more considerate and humane caregiving experience.
IRIS Optronics also showcased large-scale modular display stitching technology, designed specifically for scenarios requiring large display panels. This solution supports flexible modular assembly and wide-temperature outdoor operation, meeting the needs of smart cities, large-scale commercial advertising, and other related applications.
At this Touch Taiwan exhibition, IRIS Optronics collaborated with partners including Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Apacer, Fudong, Taichung Harbor Hotel, KDI, and CREiST. Through immersive, scenario-based demonstrations, the company showcased applications of full-color cholesteric liquid crystal electronic paper in diverse fields such as outdoor advertising, smart education, smart healthcare, smart retail, and smart transportation.
“We have accumulated more than 200 global patents. These breakthrough technologies further strengthen IRIS Optronics’ leadership position in the full-color electronic paper market,” said Chi-Chang Liao, Chairman of IRIS Optronics. He emphasized that the company has not only successfully overcome the technological limitations of traditional electronic paper, but has also delivered high-efficiency solutions that meet commercial requirements and ESG standards through the integration of cholesteric liquid crystal and optoelectronic technologies.
